Tan Siew Ling lost her sight at age 11. However her visual impairment did not stop her from completing her education and being employed. Unable to read from her computer screen, Tan uses a screen reader which provides an audio output from her computer. This enables her to work as a market intelligence analyst in a headhunting firm where she identifies potential candidates on LinkedIn.

While the many small roads around her home stop her from travelling independently around her neighbourhood, Tan travels to many other places in Singapore on her own. This is possible through an accessible pathway from her home, leading to a bus stop nearby.
